BORGHI & PRESEPI

Every year, between Christmas and Epiphany, Sutrio is transformed by the presence of handcrafted Nativity scenes arriving from all over Italy and abroad.

These depictions of the Nativity fill courtyards, old stables, niches, and village squares, creating a fascinating itinerary through unique works of craftsmanship that surprise with their originality and variety: from a life-sized sand Nativity to one enclosed within a walnut shell; some made of hay, others of recycled fabric, and of course, of wood. Static and moving cribs alike bring the magic of Christmas to life even more intensely.

As a testament to the value and quality of this tradition, in 2022 the Nativity scene of Sutrio was chosen to be displayed in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, carrying Carnic art and creativity to the very heart of Christianity.

Throughout the Christmas season, “La Via del Natale” returns, a free, family-friendly, stop-by-stop trail that lets you fully immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere and discover Sutrio, the Nativity Village. The journey begins at the Tea House (Cason dei Boscadôrs), where you can pick up the materials needed to visit all the points marked on the map. At each stop, you can see, touch, taste, and smell… collecting stickers to complete your souvenir Christmas postcard from Sutrio.

Every day of the trail, children can freely express their creativity in the workshops held in the Multipurpose Hall. No reservation is required: simply arrive between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to join the day's activity.

There is also a special offer: a pass available at the Pro Loco for €25 gives access to five workshops, plus one free.

The program is enriched with numerous special events, such as the traditional Festa dei Coscritti on December 26, featuring an afternoon parade led by the float of the newly turned eighteen-year-olds, followed by the older classes, each with its own flag, some dating back to the early 1900s. On January 5, the magical Living Nativity takes place, with local actors and extras bringing to life the Nativity scene and the arrival of the Three Wise Men.
