Places TO SEE

The so-called “Valle dell'Orologiaio” refers to Val Pesarina, a picturesque valley in Carnia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, renowned for its centuries-old clockmaking tradition. Its heart is the village of Pesariis, known as the “village of clocks,” where visitors can explore the Clockmaking Museum in the Casa della Pesa, showcasing domestic and tower clocks that trace the evolution of local craftsmanship. Strolling through the village, one encounters the Percorso dell'Orologeria Monumentale, an open-air museum with fifteen monumental clocks that symbolize the region's deep connection with time. The tradition dates back to the 18th century and is surrounded by legends: some speak of a Genoese pirate or Carnic merchants who brought the craft from Germany. In 1725, the Solari factory was founded, later becoming world-famous for its clocks in towers and railway stations.
Nearby attractions include Casa Bruseschi, which preserves the memory of traditional Carnic life, and the Museum of Cinematography and Photography in Pieria. Together, they make Val Pesarina a true “valley of time,” where history and craftsmanship live in harmony.
